Faculty Mentor: Kimberly Marman, M.Ed.
Chair, Department of Education
Special Education Program Director
University of Mary
I was given the privilege to learn from a University of Mary graduate of the Department of Education herself. Kim has not only been my mentor, but my motivator. She has taught me the importance of organization, professionalism, and most importantly perseverance. I was given the opportunity to attend a few different functions involved with other Special Education professionals around town. There are so many things I admire about Mrs. Marman, but the quality I admire the most is her passion and ability to truly care about her students. She has made time in her extremely busy life to teach me some of the most valuable life lessons, as well as professional lessons that will make me a better person and an even greater teacher.
Professional Mentor: Anna Bergman, M.SEd. ECSE
Early Childhood Special Education teacher
Lewis and Clark Elementary school
Anna Bergman has allowed me to come into her classroom at my leisure and not only observe, but work with the students. It was truly a hands on experience and I have learned so much from her and her students. I was able to see how an Early Childhood Special Education classroom works and runs. I was also able to sit in and observe a screening and a debriefing of the students. This was an amazing experience that I know I would not have gotten anywhere else. I also have the privilege of serving on the Legacy Kids team at Legacy Methodist Church with Mrs. Bergman. We are now perusing a program plan for children with special needs of Legacy Kids so all children can have the opportunity to learn about Jesus. This has been the best experience and I look forward to one day running a classroom and over coming its obstacles just as well as she does.
