Diversity Experience:
Ghana, Africa
In the Fall of 2015 I went on a mission trip to West Africa with 5 other members of Legacy Methodist Church. Our main mission was at assist in Mephibosheph Training Center- a school for children with disabilities. I coordinated and lead a Vacation Bible School for the students in the school, lead teacher training using Montessori curriculum and learning materials as well as gave the director materials and lesson plans to further the learning in their classrooms. The school had 65 students ages 6-21 with a wide range of disabilities. I also lead various groups of children through some smaller Vacation Bible School lessons. I spoke with the Bishop of the Methodist churches in Kimasi of ways to improve the teachings and ideas of future projects I would be interested in participating in when I return to Ghana. I was able to not only give my services and share my teaching techniques with the beautiful people of Ghana, but came back with a wealth of knowledge and techniques I plan to use, and have already begun using, in my educational environment one day.
